The 5 major things you need to know about Wedding Registry

What is Wedding Registry?

Source: https://www.walmart.com/

In the simplest terms, a wedding registry is a list of wedding gifts a couple would like to receive from the guests on their marriage. It is a service where the couple would choose a list of products they need and might be actually useful for them. Once created, the list is then sent to the guests by the service provider or the parents of the couples. This eliminates the possibility of receiving unnecessary gifts or the same gift by hundreds of guests.

They save your time and money

Close or distant relatives, we do spend time hitting our heads as to what to buy and what is the appropriate budget that is neither too much or too less. Both the hindrances are removed here as the thinking part is done by the couples on behalf of the guests.

You can consider making the registry private

Simple password protection is enough to make your registry private if you don’t want any random people to know the colour of your favourite bed sheets or the brand of music player you prefer.

Add a few things just for fun

If the guest is huge, it’s time to get creative. Select things which you won’t buy in normal situations. Maybe an alarm clock that jumps, or a 10 in 1 kitchen cutter. The sky is the limit. Go for it.

The Ultimate Wedding Checklist

A wedding is a huge life event not just for the bride and the groom, but also for the several people involved in it. And that just brings more pressure and expectation for the big day to be perfect. With happiness and joy, comes hassles and responsibility. So here is an ultimate checklist to guide you in this thick jungle of ‘Big Fat Indian Weddings’:

1.     Fix a Budget:

A wedding is not just any event. It can cost a fortune for the families. Even though the new generation has changed the way of spending with both sides of families contributing to the special occasion, it can still burn a hole in the pocket. If it is going to be a week-long, high-end wedding or just a simple wedding with only the important rituals and occasions, make sure it is the first thing you decide upon as a couple. This can be the first major financial planning as a couple!

2.     Plan and make a list:

A normal Indian wedding goes on for a minimum of 2-3 days. So no matter how sure you are that you got everything covered, you always miss a few departments that need to be looked after. A basic wedding would require planning on: the Venue, Catering, Photographers, Clothing, Priest, Make-up, Hotels, Invitations, Mehendi artists, Decorators. And if you’re opting for a more luxurious one, add a few extra things to the list like DJs, Website, Florists, Transportation, Entertainments, Celebrities, Fashion Designers, professional planners, themed props and anything that could make your wedding stand apart. Don’t be late; make sure it is planned at least 15-18 months ago.

3.     Work on it and start booking:

It’s about 12 months to go before the D-day. It’s about time to start ticking off items and do all the required pre-bookings. It is hardest to get hold of an ideal venue, hence make that as a priority and tackle it first. Apart from that, 12 months is quite a comfortable time to book the rest. But do not procrastinate. I repeat, do not procrastinate!

4.     Plan the pre-event ceremonies:

They come out of the blue and are unavoidable. A DJ party for your office mates, a dinner party for your college mates or a fancy bachelor party. There are a few more months before the wedding, and now might be the perfect time to throw a party!

5.     Trial test:

3-4 months to go and it’s time to do a test run. Check if your Wedding dresses are perfect. If not, make them perfect. Don’t settle for anything less. Check if the decorations which are planned goes well with the venue. Go through the music playlist. Proofread your invitations. Check if you’re missing anyone from the guest list. Taste the items on your catering list. If there are any last minute major changes to be made, it has to be done now!

6.     Invitations:

4-6 weeks before the wedding is an ideal period to distribute the invitations. Locals, nationals, internationals, select a medium that will deliver your cards as soon as possible and start the inviting process. Following the trend, one can mention their wedding registry link in the invitation that would free both the guests and the hosts from the hassles of gifts. A wedding registry is a list of prepared by the couple as to items which they require and which can be given to them as gifts.

7.  Assign the tasks:

If you hire professional wedding planners, then you may not worry much about things being done properly and on time. But if you plan to make your friends and relatives in charge of each department, make sure they handle their part well. Have a discussion with them a few days before the ceremonies start and assign ahead to keep following up with them throughout the wedding. After all, you would be busy standing still and smiling for 4 days straight. And that can be hard. The bottom line is, wedding preparations are done to ensure that it is memorable and enjoyable for everyone attending it. So why should you be left out of it! Plan it, and have fun while you’re at it.
